Once upon a time there was a King named Theodoric.
He was a good King, much loved by his people, and he made sure that his people never lacked anything and that everyone lived in happiness and wealth.
However, Theodoric kept a great secret: every night he would climb to the highest tower of his castle to talk to the moon, asking her advice on how to solve even the smallest problem and to always govern his kingdom in peace.
But one day the witch Maligna - that was her name - discovered the King's secret and, while everyone was sleeping, she captured the moon to throw it into the deepest sea.
The King then sank into the deepest despair: he no longer knew what decisions to make for his kingdom, so used was he to consulting the Moon for every eventuality. Thus, great chaos ensued: for the people there were no longer any rules or laws to respect... in short, a total disaster. But one night, the fairy Clementina appeared to Theodoric in a dream and said: "Theodoric, do not despair, you will find your Moon again, but for this to happen, you must walk a steep and narrow path, not without dangers." Theodoric then asked the fairy: "And how will I find this path?" And the fairy replied: "Alone, you will recognize it immediately."
The next day Theodoric got up with good intentions for his people, so sure that he would find his Moon again, that he began to make decisions on his own.
But it was not easy: the king had to work very hard to restore peace to his kingdom, he did not sleep for many nights, he could no longer eat, he spent whole days studying the most varied solutions to his problems.
But one fine day he realized that things were changing, for the first time they were going in the right direction and in the end, after much effort and not a few sacrifices, everything returned to how it was before.
For some time the king had taken up the habit of going on hot air balloon rides, when one night, from the bottom of the sea right below him, he saw a strong glimmer, an unusual light, and looking closely he realized it was the Moon. "Look where it ended up!" exclaimed the king and, without thinking twice, he took out his fishing rod, which he always carried with him, and fished out his Moon.
Theodoric, returning home overjoyed, asked the Moon: "How did I find you, dear Moon, without in the end having to walk the tortuous path that Fairy Clementina had foretold me in my dream?"
The Moon replied: "Perhaps you don't know it, but you have already walked your path, facing all the difficulties and adversities of life! On your own you managed to make important decisions for yourself and your people. Dear King, you must know that for each of us there always comes, sooner or later, the day when we must learn to live and face life, so difficult but so wonderful: the most beautiful gift we have been given."
