Massimo Pantani can and loves to define himself as self-taught; his natural inclination for painting leads him to create works in front of which one remains enchanted: an effect of light, a reflection of water, a placid spring sky, a corner of landscape, a silent city alley, the sturdy towers of San Gimignano where he was born and works, all this world attracts him with an irresistible charm, as if he feels all the poetry hidden in these things calling him to convey their content through pictorial images.
This painting by Massimo is precise in drawing, delicate, but of surprising effectiveness; the work of this painter seems to arise from the exclusive pleasure of constructing a corner of the world where everyone would like to live and where an idyllic atmosphere brings us back to distant romantic dreams.
Even in this watercolour we can see the painter's skill in transforming his own sensations into painting and in giving us that magical and wonderful image of San Gimignano that we all know well. The size of the watercolour with frame is 20x37

Massimo Pantani was born in San Gimignano, Tuscany on 14th August 1956. He is entitled and loves to define
himself as a self-taught artist. His instinctive brush-stroke is not inspired by any sophisticated concepts.
This peculiar instinctiveness is indeed at its best when it comes to rocky landscapes. Those very landscapes
which abound in Tuscany, are translated/interpreted in all their simplicity and beauty in our artist’s works.
His strokes are incisive certainly not mawkish and are to put in result the general scene rather than details.
His style might seem unfinished because of the unworked brush-strokes and the final result may look as a sketch.
Yet, a perceptive analysis recognises the non-necessity of a more define and precise trait.
The message is clearly given to the viewer who unconsciously becomes part of such landscapes.
